Poker is a game using the whole pack of 52 cards. There are a number of variations to the game and it comes in many forms. Texas Hold’em is by far the most popular of these and is played on a table of between 2 and 10 players. Each player is dealt two cards face down, which they are permitted to look at. Rounds then begin, and at the start of each round, one or several community cards are revealed. The winner of each round is the player with the best 5-card combination. Tournaments involve a few additional rules and variations to the classic game of poker.

B – Money

  1. Play with fictitious money

Most rooms give you the chance to play poker with play money. While it may be a good way to familiarise yourself with the poker software, it is by no means a good way to understand the game. Playing with fictitious money is not akin to playing the real game.

  1. Starting capital is necessary

Certain rooms offer free starting capital. Take a look at our Free Poker page. If you choose to make a first deposit, just make sure you’re not using your rent money.

  1. Your chips

In cash games you generally have the right to sit with 100 big blinds. A player can re-buy or add more chips to their stack at any time between hands. Once a hand has begun, however, players can only use the chips in play at the start of the hand. And added chips can only be taken into account from the start of the next hand.

  1. Choose your game limit

The “category” that you’re playing in: NL 10, NL 50, SNG €5, MTT to €60, PLO 100.

There are generally three broad categories even though there is no official classification:

  • Micro-limits or low limits: Up to NL 100
  • Mid-stakes: from NL 100
  • High-stakes: from NL 1,000

Good luck at the tables!
